Apologies if there is any disruption in service over the next couple of days.
I am moving the kirkwoodgolf website from one host to another...
I'm hoping that there will not be any problems... but you never know!

North of Scotland Championship entry forms on

"new look" Angus County website

Aileen Hunter has given the Angus County website a bit of a makeover - www.angusladiesgolf.org
Aileen told Kirkwoodgolf.co.uk:
" I felt it was about time and I wanted to put what I'm learning in my Web Design & Development degree course to good use. Until I started at Abertay University I was self taught, so it's good to be learning better practices (or as many as my old brain can retain).
"There is a section on the site for the North of Scotland Championship which is at Forfar Golf Club from July 5 to 7. Entry forms can be downloaded from the site."

Readership and Advertising on kirkwoodgolf.co.uk

Steady increase in visits to kirkwoodgolf.co.uk last year

Colin and I are very pleased to report that readership of kirkwoodgolf.co.uk website grew last year to over 500,000 unique visits and over 1,000,000 page views clocked between 1 January and 31st December. Readership has not abated during the winter, and is running at over 50,000 unique visits per month, which augurs well for 2010.

We are very grateful for your continued interest in kirkwoodgolf.co.uk, Colin is amazing ... he is just SO keen to keep you informed, and he spends hours collecting and collating stories and scores. Thank you to all who have written in and contributed to the website.

You might think that we get paid for providing the service, or that the website is sponsored. WRONG!

We knew when we started that we were never going to make a fortune, and we certainly haven't been disappointed on that score. Advertising brings in a little money which does not even cover our costs.

Do you know of anyone who would consider advertising with us? For only £30 per month you can advertise on both kirkwoodgolf.co.uk and our brother site scottishgolfview.com. More information can be found here. I can design an advertisement to fill the 150x300 pixel space for you at no extra charge.

Let's see Scotland and Scottish Golfers on top of the scoreboard at all events in 2010 and that you turn to kirkwoodgolf.co.uk to read about it first!

Kind regards
Gillian Kirkwood

Notes on Statistics on kirkwoodgolf.co.uk
Those that look at both websites (kirkwoodgolf.co.uk and scottishgolfview.com) will have seen that the statistics for the two websites are reported in different ways. kirkwoodgolf.co.uk is hosted by Strato and scottishgolfview.com by 1&1. They report statistics differently. kirkwoodgolf.co.uk moved to Strato in the middle of January 2009 and therefore the January figures are not complete.

for Olympic Games' curling team

By DAWN BUTCHART

P&K county squad player Eve Muirhead has been named in the five-strong Great Britain & Ireland women's curling team for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games at Vancouver.
Eve, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, along with Karen Addison, Lynn Cameron, Jackie Lockhart, Lorna Vevers and Kelly Wood, make up the women’s squad. All have had their share of European and World Championship medals. Eve has two World Junior Curling championships, Jackie Lockhart has already played in two Olympic Games and has won a World gold medal in 2002 and got bronze at the 2007 World Championships and silver at the Europeans in December.
Karen Addison has two World Junior gold medals, a World bronze from 2007 and got European silver in the same year. Lynn Cameron and Kelly Wood played in the 2006 Winter Olympics, Kelly skipped the bronze medal team at the 2007 World Championships and silver team at the Europeans in December 2007.
Eve is the youngest member and is very excited about her selection. We here at P&K wish her well and will follow her progress with great interest.
Well done, Eve!

We are closing the subject of Tam Pepper's E-mail (scroll down to read his critical comments) with the following reader's response.

From Tom Anderson

Just seen Tam Pepper's letter to you and your request for comments.
Yes - Tam Pepper is quite right you are biased in your reporting.
At present in Scotland we have the most promising and excellent group of young lady amateur golfers for many years together with a number of very good young professionals.
However, in reading your reports at times one would think Scotland young lady golfers consisted purely of Carly Booth and Vikki Laing and sadly the newspapers usually draw their small printed reports from you.
Let's be fair to all members of the above highly talented group of young lady golfers in Scotland. In recent times they all deserve much better publicity than they have received.

Tom Anderson

Last word on the subject from the Editor:

I was astonished when Mr Pepper somehow turned round my praise of Carly Booth to hold me responsible for making her unpopular with her fellow competitors. That was news to me. I was not aware that Carly was "unpopular."
As for Mr Anderson's comments.
Carly Booth won the Scottish Under-21 girls' title by NINE shots. Difficult to write about anyone else in that tournament unless there was unlimited space, which there is not.
Carly won the Scottish Under-18 girls' match-play championship. I did touch on other girls' achievements during that week but Carly Booth began with a brilliant score of nine-under-par 64 and no self-respecting golf writer could have ignored her after that.
She was the player that even non-golf enthusiasts, i.e. newspaper readers, were talking about. She even made the Leader column in the Aberdeen Press and Journal.

NEW LOOK FOR KIRKWOODGOLF

Hope you haven't all died of shock!

I've changed Kirkwoodgolf around, so that you see the "HotNews" page first, and the old pink pages are in the background, reached by the Links down the left hand side.

Reasons:
1. I'm going to be away for weeks on end this summer,
2. Quite frankly I can't keep up with Colin's phenomenal output.

There are still going to be some teething troubles.... Let me know if you have any problems reaching or reading these pages, or if there are any links that do not work.

Website alterations

You might notice that the Hot News webpages have undergone slight alterations today.

First of all I've altered the banner a little. Yes the photo in the background has changed.... there's a prize for the first person who tells me where it is!!!
You'll have noticed that I've removed the words "Hot News" as I am about to change the whole website around, and have this page as the kirkwoodgolf home page.
If you are still with me... the reason I am doing this is because I'm going to be away for at least 8 weeks this summer... and I don't want you to get frustrated by always seeing a message "Sorry I'm away.. look at Hot News" ... so instead you'll get Hot News automatically.
Hold onto your hats as the big changeover will happen soon!

I've added a Categories list (top left). All the stories/posts will have a label from now on... and so, for instance, if you want to read all about student golf, and only student golf, you can click on the student golf link and see only stories about student golf. Whew!

Let me know what you would like to see in the Categories section and Colin and I will do our best to comply! Indeed if there is anything you think can be improved then please get in touch. Email me at gill@kirkwoodgolf.co.uk
